Media Advisory Date: December 23, 1996

Today the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to establish Evidence-based Practice Centers (EPCs). Proposals are due March 24, 1997.

The EPCs will produce evidence reports and technology assessments based on comprehensive reviews and rigorous analyses of the relevant scientific evidence. The reports and assessments will be used by systems of care, professional societies, purchasers and others as the scientific foundation for developing their own practice guidelines, performance measures and other quality improvement tools, and for making decisions related to the effectiveness or appropriateness of specific health care technologies.

To receive a copy of the RFP (AHCPR-97-0001) mail the requestor's name, affiliation, address, and telephone and telefax numbers to: AHCPR Contracts Management Staff, Attention: Al Deal, Executive Office Center, Suite 601, 2101 East Jefferson Street, Rockville, MD 20852; or telefax the information to (301) 443-7523, Attention: Al Deal.
