On August 1, 2001, Anne Elixhauser, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), made a presentation during the Web-assisted teleconference, The Next Revolution: The Role of Informatics in Improving Health Care entitled "HCUPnet: Easy Access to Hospital Statistics On-Line."

This slide features the page on the HCUPnet site that allows visitors to search and select databases. There are 5 tabs that visitors can click on: Instant Tables, National Statistics, Hospital Stays for Children Only, Trends, and State Statistics.

This slide displays the HCUPnet Web page that allows visitors to search national statistics for diagnoses or procedures. The text on the screen is as follows:

This slide features a picture of the HCUPnet Web page that allows visitors to compare Hospital Characteristics by Ownership, Teaching Status, Location, Bedsize and Region.

Results

This slide illustrates what the results of an HCUPnet search might look like. For example, for heart valve procedures, a table compares total number of discharges and in-hospital deaths among hospitals differentiated by owner and teaching status.
