AIDS Prevention

Measure Title

New AIDS cases per 100,000 population (age 13 or over).

Measure Source

Healthy People 2010, measure 13-1.

Table

Healthy People 2010, measure 13-14.

Tables

1.62a. HIV-infection deaths per 100,000 population, United States, 1999 and 2003.

1.62b. HIV-infection deaths per 100,000 population, by State, 1999 and 2003.

Management of HIV/AIDS

Measure Title

HIV patients with CD4 counts less than 200 who received Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia (PCP) prophylaxis.

Measure Source

The HIV Research Network.

Table

1.63. HIV patients age 18 and over with CD4 cell count less than 200 who received PCP prophylaxis, by race, United States, 2003.

Data Source

HIV Research Network, sponsored by multiple Federal agencies: the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the HIV/AIDS Bureau in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Office of AIDS Research in the Office of the Director of the National Institutes of Health (OAR/NIH).

Denominator

Numerator

Subset of denominator who received PCP prophylactic therapy.

Comments

The taxonomy of the PCP organism has been changed; Pneumocystis jiroveci refers to the distinct species that infects humans. The abbreviation PCP is still used to designate Pneumocystis pneumonia.
